Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, better known as Katy Perry, American songwriter, singer and actress, on first look happy, satisfied and confident woman, may not be so fulfilled after all.
The number of hits sold does not have to affect confidence at all. Katy is a great example for us. She sold more than 100 million singles and yet lacks confidence. She seeks from the public to acknowledge her worth, and when the audience reacted the opposite of what she expected, she felt terribly bad.
Katy often ran away from school. She later regretted it, but it was too late. Her parents were strict. She had gone through many turbulent relationships in the past. We can classify all this into the reasons that influenced her mental state. She said in an interview: “I became depressed and I did not want to get out of bed. In the past, I had been able to overcome it, but this time something happened that made me fall down too many flights of stairs. I had to really go on a mental health journey.”
Glory, popularity and success are not preconditions for happiness. Katy is a great example of that. We need to come to that level of awareness, where we will not allow ourselves to be influenced by others’ opinions and experiences of the past, but to look at it as life lessons. She did it, which we conclude from her next statement: “Music is my first love and I think it was the universe saying, ‘Okay, you speak all of this language about self-love and authenticity, but we are going to put you through another test and take away any kind of validating ‘blankie’. Then we’ll see how much you do truly love yourself.” she concludes.
